David Murray Smith

Smith, David Murray, 84 of Truro/Hilden died peacefully at home on January 1, 2012. Born on January 27, 1927 in Truro, he was the son of the late Daniel and Flora (Chambers) Smith. David was a graduate of the General Motors Institute in Flint Michigan, the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and MacDonald College at McGill University. David was employed by the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture from 1966 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Church, the past President of the Colchester Food Bank and was both judge and participant in various agricultural exhibitions. During his lifetime, David enjoyed a variety of activities including curling, sailing, golfing, gardening and travelling with family and friends. David's story telling and sense of humor was always in high demand whether at the family dinner table, at parties or with his fellow "Romeo" coffee club members. He is survived by his son Daniel, daughter Rachel (Johnson), son-in-law Peter Johnson and grandchildren Adam and Laura. He was predeceased by his wife Joy (Sandilands) and sisters Elizabeth (Spencer), Catherine and Francis Mary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colchester Food Bank or charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Andrews United Church, in Truro with Rev. Jay Ettinger officiating. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff of Williams Country Home for the loving care they provided to Dad these last few years.
