Barry Gerald Wheten
Wheten, Barry Gerald, 59, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully after a short illness on January 2, 2011 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Truro he was the son of the late Frank and Helen (Stewart) Wheten. Barry was a building manager for an apartment complex in Bible Hill. He was a valued and trusted employee. He was a great thinker, introspective and an astute judge of character. To be Barry’s friend was truly an honour. The “Bear” as he was known, loved his family, his many friends, his baby “Rascal”, and his Asian friends from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. He had a special place in his heart for John McIntyre and Sharon Lynds, his lifelong friends and travelling companions. Through his good works and association with the Fellowship, Barry had a positive impact on the lives of many people. He was also a friend of the environment and did his part to help make our world a better place. He is survived by sister, Carmelita Cairns, Fresno, CA; brothers, William “Bill” (Lillian), Edmonton, AB, Michael, Ottawa, ON; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Christene Anderson, Patricia Wheten; brothers, John, Bernard. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2011 at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro from 7- 9 p.m., with a memorial Mass to be celebrated on Thursday, January 5th at 2 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince St., Truro with Father Francesco Pirisi officiating. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation. The family would like to extend a “thank you” to Dr. Chris Cook, Dr. Courtney Smith and the Palliative Care Unit of the hospital, in particular, Director Michele Rigby, for their assistance, guidance and compassionate care.
