Irene J. MacDonald, Green Hill, Pictou Co., passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
Irene was born in Murray River, P.E.I., to George O. and Gertie (Giddings) Whiteway. She married Alvin in 1951 and moved to the farm in Green Hill where she remained until poor health took her into Glen Haven Manor last February.
Irene is survived by her daughter Jean Kirk (Grant); her son Donnie (Donna); grandchildren, Duncan Kirk (Susan), Andrew Kirk (Tammy), Heather Aabed (Abdul); Jessica MacDonald and Gavin MacDonald (Chelsea); two great-granddaughters, Kylee and Camryn. She is also survived by her brother Stirling Whiteway (Janet), Montague, P.E.I.; and several nieces and nephews across Canada. She was predeceased by her husband Alvin B.; grandson Ian Kirk; and brother Harry Whiteway.
Services are under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Visitation will be held at Green Hill-Alma United Church on Thursday from 1-2:45 p.m. Her funeral service will be held 3 o’clock Thursday from the Church with Rev. Marilyn MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
