Sally Walker

WALKER, SALLY JOHANNA (PARSONS) - Sally Walker died peacefully at home in New Ross, NS on January 1, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Moncton, NB in 1943, Sally was the daughter of the late Bruce and Sallie (Gillespie) Parsons. She moved to New Ross in 1976 where she raised her two children and quickly became a loyal and active member of the community she loved so much. Sally made many friends and served as a volunteer on a number of local committees including the New Ross Recreation Committee, Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, and the New Ross Board of School Trustees. She was also a founding member of the New Ross Regional Development Association. For sixteen years, both visitors and locals looked forward to the annual opening of Sally’s “Walk-in Closet,” a popular spot to find a bargain and catch up on the news. Sally is survived by her best friend and spouse of twenty-six years, Roger Dickey; her beloved children, Danny Walker (Carolyn Powers) of Calgary, and Barbie Hiltz (Brian) of New Ross; her much-loved granddaughter Brooke of Calgary, and special grand-dog, Stella. She is also survived by six amazing women: her sisters Barbara Duggan (Dick) of Kelowna, BC; Penny Watling (Dan Ouelette) of Windsor, NS; Sue Murray, Moncton, NB; Nancy Philley (Rich Reitmeier) White Rock, BC; Mekay Empey, Windsor, and Claire Parsons, Moncton, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by the father of her children, Don Walker (Glenda) of New Ross and was predeceased by a nephew, Graham Stevenson and a niece, Tammy Hodder. During the last years of her illness, Sally received excellent, compassionate care and support from her physicians, Dr. Tal Eunice, Dr. Jolene Jarvis, and Dr. Heather Robertson and from the wonderful chemo nurses at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, NS. As well, the visits, calls, flowers and food from her many friends in the community of New Ross brightened Sally’s days and will long be remembered and appreciated by the family.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Sally’s life will be held on Thursday, January 5 at Christ Anglican Church, New Ross. Visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the service.
