NELSON, ELEANOR DAY - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on January 1, 2012, Mrs. Eleanor Day (Daigle) Nelson, wife of the late Mr. Marvin William Nelson of Saint John, NB. Born at Ellsworth, ME on December 23, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Merton and Ruth (Tate) Foster. A loving sister, aunt and friend, she is survived by four sisters; Charlene Daigle of Blacks Harbour, NB, Joyce Baldwin of Saint John, NB, Esther (Bruce) Smythe of Beaver Harbour, NB and Joan (Earl) Shaw of St. George, NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her loving husband, she was predeceased by two brothers; Phil and Lowell and by two sisters; Elaine Cantley and Dorothy Spear and by one sister in infancy. Prior to her retirement, Eleanor worked as a waitress while living in San Diego, CA, where she “rubbed elbows” with the many celebrities she served and who began to call her by first name. While working away, she often sent money and presents back home to her younger siblings who where always grateful. Eleanor was known for her love of animals, which where her passion. She was a breeder of many breeds and loved each and every animal that passed through her door. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB from where the service will be held on Thursday at 1:30 pm with Rev. Reg Ward officiating. Interment will take place at the St. George Rural Cemetery in the spring. Visiting at the funeral home will take place on Thursday from 10:00 am until Noon. In Eleanor’s memory, donations to the SPCA or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. (www.stgeorgefh.ca)
