Addie May  Currie

Currie, Addie May (Blackmore) – 96, formerly of Barry Avenue, Salmon River, passed away January 2, 2012 at Debert Court where she has resided for the last year. Addie was the daughter of the late Stearns and Esther (Tattrie) Blackmore of McCallum Settlement. She married Cecil Currie on October 21, 1939. She was employed by Lewis Peg Factory for 10 years and Stanfields for 23 and a half years before retiring in 1968. She and dad enjoyed playing cards, loved to travel and spent their summers camping at the family campground in Balfron, near Tatamagouche. She was well known for her love of dancing, for the hanging baskets that decorated her home on Barry Ave, and for her exceptional quilting skills, a gift that she passed on to all three of her daughters. She completed her final quilt at the age of 92. Addie is survived by her four children, Berton (Sally Merriam) of North Kingston, Bonnie (Arthur) Redden of Enfield, Sandra (Sandy) Kent of Stewiacke, and Wanda (Donnie) Frizzle of Great Village, two sisters, Hazel Johnson of Truro, and Florence Shearer of Crowes Mills, two step-brothers, Norman (Beverly) Hingley of Crowes Mills and Newton (Darlene) Hingley of Harmony, sister- in- Law Betty Blackmore of North River, brother- in- law Earl (Marguerite) MacLeod of Onslow, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Cecil Currie; sisters, Blanche Messervey, Daisy Macleod, Freda MacRae, Gladys MacKenzie; brothers Murray Blackmore, Ernest Blackmore, Edward Ernest (in Infancy); and grandson Ian Currie. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, where visitation will be held this evening, January 4, from 7-9pm and funeral service 2pm Thursday, January 5, Rev. David Lutes officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment to be held in the Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Upper North River. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Blackmore Memorial Cemetery. The family would like to express special thanks to the nurses and staff of Fundy Lane at Debert Court, and Palliative Care Nurse, Sue Gibbon, for the excellent care and attention which made Grammie’s last few days more comfortable.
