Richard (Dick) Marrie

August 16, 1932-January 3, 2012. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard (Dick) Marrie, age 79 years, in the presence of his loving family and closest friends at the Palliative Care Unit at the L.A. Miller Centre following a courageous battle with cancer. Dick was a pillar of strength and courage for many people during his life and always demonstrated compassion and selfless love to his family. Dick will be always remembered for his sense of humor and generosity in acts of kindness for all he knew and a work ethic second to none. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary (Eziekal) Marrie and Paddy and Bride Marrie; brothers: Joe and Edmund and sister Hannah Robbins. Leaving to mourn his beloved wife of 50 years, Marie (Nolan); children: Cathy Puddister, Pat Marrie (Karolyn Nolan), Lucy Marrie (Rod Dupras), Annette (Darryl) Hodder, Sandra (Cyril) Williams; treasured grandchildren: Jessica, Evan and Andrew Puddister, Nicholas and Lucas Marrie, Ryan and Jenny Hodder, Bradley Dunne and Clara Williams; sisters: Frances Ryan, Eileen (Ignatius) Meaney, Theresa Marrie, Clara (Ron) Farrell and Carmel Marrie; brother and sister-in-law Derm and Clare Nolan; many cherished nieces and nephews especially Jackie Marrie (Ella and Enzo) and Stevie Marrie; special friends: Theresa Williams, Dr. Moe Ali, Jean and Richard Hall, Eleanor Nolan, Yvonne and Alec Noseworthy, Dick McCrate and Faith and Dave Pushman along with a large circle of relatives and friends. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Palliative Care Unit and Dr. K. Patel who was most respectful of Dad’s quality of life. Visitation will take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on January 4, 2012 from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at 2 p.m. on January 5. Cremation and inurnment to follow. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Donations in Dick’s memory can be made to Daffodil Place, Newfoundland Chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society.
