It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gregory MacDonald, 74, of Mitchell Avenue, Dominion.
Gregory passed away at his residence Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John T. and Florence (Strang) MacDonald.
He loved music and played in bands throughout his whole life. During the past four years he played with the Shenanigans and entertained at various homes for the elderly and hospitals.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Mary Catherine ‘Betty’ (Browner); daughters, Maureen (David) LeBlanc, Lower Sackville, Kelly Muise, Dartmouth; brothers, Lloyd (Marguerite), Toronto, Bazil (Effie), Glace Bay, Gerald (Precilla), Dominion; sisters, Evelyn (Dave) Cole, Dartmouth, Joan (Henry) O'Brien, Glace Bay, Shirley (Peter) Roach, Dominion, Geraldine (Tony) Chiola, Dartmouth, Maureen (Brian) Corbett, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Millie MacDonald, Glace Bay. Also surviving are cherished grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley Muise, Catherine and David LeBlanc, great-grandchildren, Evan and Jayme.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Harold and Eugene and three sisters and one brother, in infancy.
In honoring Gregory’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25 at St. James Church, Gardiner Mines, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
