It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Charles Harvey, on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Nursing Home, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, April 24, 1932, Charles was the son of the late Charles and Georgina (Simpson) Harvey.
Charles was a former resident of Smith Street, New Waterford, and a member of Calvin United Church.
He was employed as an instructor at the Nova Scotia Vocational School in Sydney, where he also volunteered his time as coach for the school hockey team.
A very quiet-natured man, Charles had a love for harness racing and at one time was the owner of a racehorse.
Charles is survived by a brother, George (Elizabeth), Frenchvale; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by a brother, Andrew, sisters, Harriet and Jean.
In honouring Charles’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 26 from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society or Calvin United Church Memorial Fund.
