CORA MAE CHAD (DIER)
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend – Cora Mae Chad. Cora passed away suddenly on November 20, 2009 in her home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Cora is survived by her children Bonita Chad, Cheryl Chad, John Chad, Linda Clarke, David (Carlene) Chad and her grandchildren Debbie, Sonny, Chad (Connie), Sabrina (Dave), Carrie (Jamie), Erin (Grant), Jeff (Colleen), Carl (Stephanie) and Joshua. Cora was also blessed with and is survived by her 15 great grandchildren; her sister Vivian Moffat and many nieces and nephews. Cora was predeceased by her husband Victor Chad; her parents William (Bill) and Leila Dier; her sisters and their husbands Irene Winters (Stan) and Skip Paulsen (Joe); her brother-in-law Jack Moffat and nephew Dan Paulsen. Cora was born May 6, 1924 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The majority of her life was spent in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where she raised her five children with Vic until his sudden passing in 1966. At that point, Cora became a single parent, working outside the home, in a variety of “people-centered” occupations, including several years at the Kinsmen Community Workshop. When Cora retired in 1989 at the age of 65, she moved into Carment Court in Prince Albert. Cora remained active, always planning, always organizing activities for seniors through her role as President of the Tenant’s Association for more than 15 years. During this time, Cora sat as a member of the Saskatchewan Council on Aging, contributing to programs for seniors in the Province of Saskatchewan. In 2007, Cora moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family where she, once again, assumed the role of Chair of the Tenant’s Association, this time, in the Scott-Forget Towers. Cora remained in this role until January of this year. Cora was a creative individual. Having been blessed with her mother’s ability to paint, she became a water colourist, producing paintings much sought after by her family and friends. Cora was also known for her skills as a seamstress, a songstress and her ability to cook, being referred to fondly as the “Galloping Cora Mae!” Cora’s favourite activities included being at the lake, taking drives on warm sunny days, receiving letters from Holland, going for ice cream, and cheering on her Roughriders! A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Cora at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at Wesley United Church, 65 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Rev. Bonita Chad officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. A luncheon will be served in the concourse at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK following the interment. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Cora, our Mom, Grandma, Nana, sister, aunt, and friend, you will always be remembered in our hearts, in our songs and in the softness of a cool summer breeze.
