STACEY (CONNORS), Edith Jane (nee Best) — March 25, 1913 – January 1, 2012. While rejoicing in her long, healthy, and active life, we are also deeply saddened at the ending of her inspiring journey. Active in her community wherever she lived – Spencer’s Cove, St. John’s, North Harbour, Arnold’s Cove – she took great pleasure in making a positive contribution, whether through participating enthusiastically in social organizations; performing in community concerts; providing care as a dedicated and competent midwife, health care provider, and undertaker; or knitting for the needy. She was happy in her garden surrounded by flowers, happier still in her community surrounded by friends, and happiest of all in her home surrounded by family – especially children. She was a loyal, dependable, and faithful friend who possessed a fine sense of humour marked by an ability to see the fun in practically every situation, to share joy with others, and to laugh heartily at herself. Daughter of the late Charles and Eliza (Brown) Best, Edith was predeceased by husbands Michael J. Connors and George W. Stacey; sisters Jessie Legge and Phoebe Ralph; brothers Stanley Best and William Best; daughters Thelma Connors, Shirley Snook Inkpen, and Gloria Eddy; and grandson Lorne Snook. Mourning their loss, but grateful for the good fortune of her past and enduring presence in their lives, are daughter Joan Gilbert (Roy); sons: Charles Stacey (Shirley), George Connors (Connie), and John Connors (Cherry Dalley); sisters: Effie Slade and Mabel Masters (James); sister-in-law Elizabeth Best Peach; 16 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends. Funeral Service took place at Bethel United Church in North Harbour on Thursday, January 5 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel United Church, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Dr. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, the Children’s Wish Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice.
