It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend Klasina ‘Sini’ (White) Steele, of North Sydney, on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, where she resided for the past several months.
Born in Goor, Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late Bernhard and Johanna (Koops) Ligtenbarg.
Sini worked for many years as a switchboard operator at St. Elizabeth Hospital and the Northside General Hospital. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #19, North Sydney and the Cape Breton War Brides. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
She is survived by her son, Mike (Bev) White; and her daughter, Debbie White, both of North Sydney; her brother, Gerritt in the Netherlands; her three grandchildren, Tanya (Peter) Adams, London, Ont., Jeff (Anita) White, Chatham, Ont., and Shannon Parsons, Ottawa; and also four great-grandchildren, Victoria, Jack and Michael Adams and Gary White.
Sini was predeceased by her first husband, Reginald White and her second husband, John R. Steele, her son, Victor White and three brothers, Hendrick, Albert and Jan.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.
