It is with broken and heavy hearts that we announce the death of S. Baliah Naidu on Nov. 23, 2009.
Dr. Naidu is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mohini (Mo) and his son, Shamu, living in Toronto.
He worked as a respected and beloved professor of sociology at Cape Breton University from 1973-1994 and leaves behind many friends and dear colleagues.
Dr. Naidu was born in India and received a full scholarship to study sociology at La Sorbonne in Paris, where he obtained his PhD. During his life, he accomplished many achievements both inside the classroom with his students and outside with his research, including his work ‘Le Voie Indienne de Developpment’. His vast knowledge on all subjects, ready smile, and dry humour earned him the staunchest of friends, a fact he never took for granted.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, Sydney River, 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27.
