Rosenmeier
Deeply loved wife, nurturing mother and grandmother, professor, and poet Rosamond Rauch Rosenmeier died on Dec. 29, 2011, at the age of 83, peacefully and surrounded by family. Rosamond was born July 4, 1928, in Pasadena, California, and was raised in California and New York by Charles Herbert Rauch and Harriet (Goodsell) Rauch. Boundless energy, passion for life, and remarkable empathy were among her many strengths. She is survived by her loving family: husband Jesper; and children, Jason Field (Susan Moreno), Twyla Ramos (Manuel Ramos), Alan Field (Louisa Terrell), Peter Rosenmeier (Sara Smith), and Leah Morine Rosenmeier (Randall Morine); and twelve grandchildren (Rachel, Malcolm, Angus, Donald, Jackson, Emily, Olivia, Erik, Gwyneth, Asa, Thomas and Annie). Rosamond attended Mount Holyoke College (B.A. 1950), earned a master’s degree at Radcliffe College (1960) and her doctorate at Harvard University (1971). She authored three books, including two volumes of poetry, “Lines Out” (1989) and “Where Light Answers Light” (2007) and a biography of Anne Bradstreet, “Anne Bradstreet Revisited” (1991) as well as translating, with Flora M. Gonzalez-Mandri, a volume of poems by Cuban poet Excilia Saldana, “In the Vortex of the Cyclone,” (2002). Rosamond taught writing and literature at the University of Massachusetts at Boston (1971-1990), and later at the Andover Newton Theological School. Her students recognized her as a “beautiful, exceptional” person. Jesper and Rosamond spent their summers in Prince Edward Island, Canada, gardening, reading, and walking the beach. She was a devoted member of the congregation of the Church of the Good Shepherd, in Watertown, Massachusetts, where she is grieved for deeply. Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at the church, located at 9 Russell Ave. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the church are welcomed in remembrance.
