McWHIRTER, DONALD REID - Donald McWhirter of Long Reach, NB, husband of Irene (Carvell) McWhirter passed away January 9, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Apple River, NS, son if the late Delbert and Bessie (Slocum) McWhirter. Don was a school teacher in Saint John until retirement. He was the church organist at Tabernacle Baptist Church and Kingston United Baptist Church. Don liked to play the piano and entertain people. He loved his vegetable and flower gardens which he shared with many. He is survived by his wife Irene; two sisters, Una Palmer (Rev. Jack Palmer), Amhurst, NS, Stella Watson, Brunswick, Maine; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Phyllis Bailey and Laura Merriam.
Resting at Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, with visitation on Wednesday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. The funeral will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, at Kingston United Baptist Church. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following the service. Interment in Long Reach United Cemetery.
