“Be Merciful even as your Father is Merciful” LK 6:36
We are so heartbroken to announce the passing of our loving mother Annabelle, the best friend we could ever ask for. She passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, surrounded by her children who poured out unconditional love to her.
Annabelle was a daughter of the late Edmund and Sophie (MacKinnon) English.
Born and raised in Whitney Pier, she later moved to reside in Glace Bay, where she raised her family. A very strong-spirited woman, she always maintained strength through her faith.
“Everybody in life has a cross to bear, some heavier than others. When you think you can’t carry anymore the Lord carries for you”. Mom was our Rock - her strength, her love and her heart were given to us all. Her life was dedicated to her family; always placing her needs last. She always told us children that we were closest to her heart. A very strong-willed and private lady, she gave because she wanted to give; never expecting anything in return. Everything came sincerely from the heart. Her morals and values are instilled in her children today; and hopefully, will carry into future generations. We love you mom.
An avid quilter; each stitch done with love to those who received; she loved to garden and always thought “weeds are an endangered species.” During her illness, she took strength in her Rosary and in trying times from her devotion to St. Anthony.
She is survived by her only son, Hugh, Jasper, Alta.; daughters, Emeline (Rubin) Forbes and Annabelle (Kevin) Dowe; grandchildren, Jason and Sarabeth Forbes, Cordell and Mitchell Dowe; five great-grandsons; sisters, Emeline Fraser, Catherine Koleszar; brothers, Edmund and Howard English.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Robert ‘Bob’, daughter, Mary, infant son, John Robert and by her brother, George MacKinnon.
Visitation will be held Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday, 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial alongside her daughter Mary and with her husband, John Robert.
Donations are suggested to the CBRegional Cancer Unit. The family extends much thanks to Katherine, Danny and Danielle for always being there.
