Foley, Frank Stanfield — 66, of Windsor, NS, passed away peacefully December 27, 2011, surrounded by his family at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Neurology ICU, in Halifax. Born in Truro on June 11, 1945, he was the son of the late Victor and Georgina (Mosher) Foley. Frank was raised in Windsor where he attended Windsor Academy and Windsor Regional High before moving to Halifax to begin a career with Sears Canada Inc., in their sign design and display department. It was there that he met Olive Yarn and they were married in Windsor on August 19, 1967. Daughter Susan was born in 1968 and daughter Sherri arrived in 1970.Frank was a born salesman, working for Sears and Eaton’s as well as Pothier Motors, Parsons Auto Sales and Sun Life Insurance. He also worked as a carpenter, building the house on Underwood Drive in Windsor that his daughters grew up in. Frank eventually returned to Sears in a management position, which took him all over NS, to Kentville, Truro, Cape Breton and finally back to Windsor where he managed the local catalogue office. It was here that he started the business that would be his passion until the end: Foley Traders. Early in his married life, Frank was involved in the Lions Club in Windsor as well as the local chapter of the Gideon’s. He loved to play the guitar and had a beautiful singing voice and for many years he played and sang with the band The Novas. There was hardly an occasion where he wasn’t asked to bring his guitar and play a few tunes. His daughters were proud to be able to have him sing at their weddings. An avid hunter and fisherman. Frank loved the outdoors and had the ability to grow the most abundant gardens filled with vegetables for everyone he knew. A devoted grandfather, “Poppy” would arrange elaborate Easter egg hunts and treasure hunts at the family cottage every year for his grandchildren and was always making money appear magically from behind their ears. Frank was a caring person who always saw the best in everyone he met and would do anything to help a person out. Frank received many community service awards and recognitions for his willingness to help out others through his business. His kindness and spirit will be forever missed, and never forgotten by all those his life has touched. Survived by his wife, the former Olive Yarn, daughters, Susan Abboud (George); Porters Lake; Sherri Fogarty, Windsor; step son, Matt Parker (Michelle) Cole Harbour; former son-in-law Phil Fogarty, Windsor; grandchildren, Micaila and Jorja Abboud, Colton and Olivia Fogarty, Noah and Julianna Parker; sister, Georgina (Lambie) Phillpott, Kingston, NS; brother, Victor Jr. (Lucy), Windsor Forks, several nieces and nephews and canine companion, Lily. A special thank you to all the doctors, surgeons, nurses and emergency response teams who worked tirelessly to save our husband, father and beloved Poppy when he suffered his aneurism two weeks ago and who provided the constant care while he hung on to life for the time he was in the QEII’s Neurology ICU. To Amanda for the compassion showed during our loved ones final hours in the ICU and to Tim Brown for all your help during this difficult time. To all the family and friends who provided comforting words and prayers, food and cards: our words can never express how thankful we are for the support you provided us through this very tough time.
