William Green, 81, of Howie Centre, passed away peacefully, at home, with his family by his side, on Sunday, January 8, 2012.
Born in Sydney on December 30, 1930, he was the son of the late Allison and Mae (Russell) Green.
Bill was employed as master mechanic at the Heavy Mills Department (Sysco) and then at the Heavy Water Plant construction and its operation with AECL. He was a retired construction worker from the Millwrights local 1178. Bill was fond of mechanical work and was also known as “Mr. Fix It”. He was an avid sports fan and fisherman
Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley (Terrio) Green and his three sons, Robert (Kim), Ottawa, Kevin (Sheila), Thunder Bay and Russell, Howie Centre. He was also the proud papa to Taylor, Madisyn and Mikalea, Thunder Bay. Bill is also survived by his brothers, Frank (Patsy), Sydney, Ivan (Lois), Sydney River and George (Pat), Red Islands; sister, Sharon (Zane) Lee, Sydney Forks; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Kelly Palmer.
At his request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday 11 a.m., with Rev. Laura McCue officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held on the lower level of the funeral home. Interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Braemore Home (in loving memory of his nephew, Craig) or to a charity of your choice.
God saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you and whispered “Come with me.”
He knew how much you had been through and he gave you peace and rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful because he only takes the best.
