HAGERMAN, MYRTLE MADELINE - The passing of Myrtle M. Hagerman of Bear Island, New Brunswick, wife of the late Ronald Hagerman, occurred on January 10, 2012 at Carleton Manor, Woodstock, NB. Born on November 22, 1921at Maple Ridge, NB, Myrtle was the daughter of the late Clifford and Ethel (McElwain) Blaney of Maple Ridge and Temperance Vale, NB. Myrtle graduated from the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton where she trained to be a teacher. After a brief career as a teacher in Bear Island, she married Ronald and together they built a successful family business consisting of a general store and service station in Bear Island. In 1974, Myrtle and her family began the development of the Great Bear Campground, a business that is still run today by her son and daughter-in-law. She also had a passion for the production and sale of maple products produced by the Hagerman family maple sugary. Myrtle enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and bird watching. She also trained several hunting dogs to be accomplished working dogs, and loyal companions. Her homemade brown bread and baked beans were delicious, and for a time she managed a home-based bakery. Myrtle is survived by her son, Melvin Hagerman and daughter-in-law, Valerie Hagerman, Bear Island, NB; two granddaughters, Shannon Hagerman, Victoria, BC and Lindsay MacDonald (Darren),Ottawa, ON; one sister, Donna van den Broek, ON and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Myrtle was predeceased by a sister, Betty Gray and her five brothers, Harry, Arnold, Harold, Walter and Frank Blaney.
Visitation will take place at Flewelling’s Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB next week, on Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 12 noon until the hour of service at 2 pm. Father Bob Barry will officiate a memorial service for friends and family to celebrate Myrtle’s life. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the spring at Bear Island Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances can be made to the Bear Island Cemetery, Bear Island Community Hall or a charity of the donors choice.
