GAIRLOCH – Allister Murdock MacKenzie, age 89, of Linacy, formerly of Gairloch passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 26, 2009, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Gairloch, September 3, 1920, where he resided most of his life, he was a son of the late Angus and Jean (MacKenzie) MacKenzie.
Allister farmed and did forestry most of his life. For years he delivered the mail to the Gairloch and West River Station areas. He very much enjoyed the Exhibitions whether it be Pictou, Truro, Antigonish or Halifax. He loved to socialize especially with the other farmers. Everyone who new Allister in good health enjoyed his sense of humour. Allister was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Gairloch, where he enjoyed starting the fire for church services every Sunday.
Allister is survived by close friend, Evelyn Dobson, Linacy; his son, John David "JD" (Nancy), Churchville, and two granddaughters, Tanya and Brittany; step-daughters, Isabel Langille (Ken), Dartmouth; Ruth Henley (Sam), Oxford; Sylvia Sherrard (Fraser), Saint John, NB; He is also survived by sisters, Isabel "Bell" Murray, Salt Springs, and Mary Fraser, Gairloch.
Allister was predeceased by his second wife, Miriam MacLean; stepson Gordon MacLean; and brothers-in-law, Preston Murray and Everett Fraser.
Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Sunday from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Gairloch with Rev. Gary Tonks officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Gairloch.
