PHILPOTT, MARY MONICA “MONA” - Mrs. Mary Monica (Mona) Philpott (Nee Hayes) died peacefully at her residence on January 12, 2012 at the age of 86. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Capt. David Philpott, her daughter Barbara (Stephen) O’Reilly of Miramichi and her three sons David (Sherry) Philpott of Calgary, Dr. John Philpott of Toronto and Gregory (Janice) Philpott of Toronto. Loved by her grandchildren John, Christine, Erin, Monica, Sarah, Davie, and great-grandchildren Emily, Liam and Brett, Nephew Patrick (Betty) Hayes and their daughters Kim and Jennifer. She is also survived by her sister in-law Hessie Rousseau as well as nieces Libby, Karen, Nina and Nancy and Nephew Brian. She will be greatly missed by her extended families the McCallums and Ronans. Born at the Riverview Hotel, Chatham, NB on November 10, 1925, to the late James and Blanche Hayes, she was the youngest and last surviving member of her immediate family. Mona graduated from Saint Thomas University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1949. She completed her affiliation at St. Mary’s Hospital, Montreal. Throughout her life and in the various places she lived, she practiced many aspects of nursing, taught pediatric nursing in Chatham and retired as the Acting Director of the Chatham Mental Health Clinic. During her retirement she enjoyed travelling, playing golf and bridge. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada and Retired Nurses Association. She enjoyed reading and was a fabulous cook. She was very interested in, and well connected to her family and friends, near and far. She travelled, phoned and used her iPad to facilitate that. Mona belonged to St. Michael’s Basilica and took comfort in and drew her strength from her faith. Active pallbearers are: David Philpott Jr., Dr. John Philpott, Greg Philpott, Stephen O’Reilly, Jamie O’Toole and David O’Reilly. Honorary pallbearers are Pat Hayes, David Ronan, Bob McCallum, George Lloyd, Lois Martin, Freda Blanchard, Rose Marquis, Betty Gregoire, Betty Wood, Mary King, Florence Petrie, Katherine McCallum, Margaret McCallum, Winnie Gallant, Colleen Moralejo, Norma Richardson, and Kathy Flieger.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brothers Melvin, Cyril, Gerald and Donald as well as her sister Gladys.
Visitation will be held at Maher’s Funeral Home Saturday evening January 14, 7 to 9 and Sunday January 15 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Michael’s Basilica at 11:00 am Monday, January 16th. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Internment in the spring.
