Capt. Simon James Sampson, 96, of Lower L’Ardoise, N.S., passed away peacefully at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston on November 25, 2009.
Jimmy was born in Glace Bay, the son of the late Angeline and Albert Samson.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was predeceased by brothers, Bernard, Charlie, Raymond and sisters, Eva and Theresa.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews and by his caregivers, Jean and Jackie Pottie.
Jimmy was in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1939-1945. He received various medals including the North Atlantic Star.
In his later years he enjoyed playing cards and daily trips to the gym followed by coffee at Tim Hortons.
A funeral mass to celebrate Jimmy’s life will be offered by Fr. Mariadoss Lourdusamy at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at Holy Guardian Angels Church in L’Ardoise, N.S. Burial in the parish cemetery.
