We, the family of Howard Meechan, regret to announce his passing do to a tragic accident that took place on November 24th 2009. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 27th.
Howard was born and raised in Glace Bay and was the youngest son of Mike and Vera Meechan.
He graduated from St. Michael’s High School in 1967 and St. Francis Xavier University in 1973. He worked for 31 years as an Employment Counselor at Human Resources Development Canada. Through his work he was very proud to have helped many people. Howard was an avid sports person being involved in hockey, baseball and was passionate about golf. He was a member of Lingan Golf and Country Club for many years.
He is survived by his sons, Chris (Cate), Ottawa, Scott (Kim), Calgary, and their Mother, Margie Meechan; his pride and joy granddaughters, Lilly, Ellie and Avery. He is also survived by brothers Vince (Marie), Ottawa, Michael (Gail), Glace Bay and Sister Margaret Ann Green (Steven), Glace Bay and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Mike and Vera Meechan and grandson baby Jack Meechan.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Curry’s Funeral home. There will be a memorial mass for Howard on Monday Nov. 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church in Glace Bay.
