It is with deep sadness in our hearts that we announce the sudden passing of a special mother and grandmother, Rita Penny, age 80, on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, Rita was the daughter of the late Daniel and Christina (MacIntosh) MacInnis.
Rita was a very quiet and unassuming woman, who together with her late husband Bill took great pride in their family and especially enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren who they often claimed were their “pride and joy”.
Rita was predeceased by her husband and “love of her life” Bill, in May of 2011.
She is survived by daughter, Debbie (David) Rose and their children, Lori (Cole), Jamie (Stephanie), Melissa (Carl) and Lindsay (Kyle); son, Bill Jr. (Edie) and their sons, Bill (Amanda) and Stephen (Mellisa), and also six great-grandchildren, Madison and Kyleigh Chambers, Tigh and Hannah Rose and Rhyan Penny and Sophie Penny. Rita is also survived by her sisters, Theresa Parsons, North Sydney, Christina MacInnis, Sydney, and Margaret (Tom) Lynch, Connecticut; two brothers, Greg (Viva) MacInnis, Sydney Mines, and Bernie (Ginny) MacInnis, B.C.; as well as sisters-in-law, Agnes MacInnis and Gerry MacInnis.
She was predeceased by sisters, Nan MacNeil, Barbara Morgan and Jeromina MacInnis, brothers, Larry MacInnis and Jack MacInnis, as well as a brother and sister in infancy, brothers-in-law, George Parsons and Peter MacNeil.
The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Poulos for his great care of Mom over the past several years and also the staff of MacEachern Place, Northside Community Guest Home where Mom has resided for the past several months.
Following Mom’s wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
