It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of Carol Ann Nixon on Jan. 13, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Fredericton, N.B., Carol Ann was the daughter of the late Robert and Clara (O’Leary) Johnston.
Carol Ann was an employee of the federal government of Canada until her retirement. She was a volunteer at the SPCA, member of the United Commercial Travellers and past member of Sydney Kinettes. Carol Ann was in a group of all women known as ‘The Fossil Group’. She loved to dance, travel and being outdoors surrounded by nature. Carol Ann will be remembered by family and friends for her kind and gentle soul.
Carol Ann will be sadly missed by her dance partner and best friend, Leo Evans; stepson, John (Janet) Evans; grandchildren, Taylor, Cameron and Alyssa; great-grandson, Ryder; brothers, Lewis ‘Bud’ and Earl Johnston; nieces, Rebecca, Heather and Tracy; and nephew, Malcolm.
Besides her parents, Carol Ann was predeceased by brother, Arthur and sisters, Martha, Roberta, Betty and Patsy at infancy.
Visitation for the late Carol Ann Nixon will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd., Sydney, on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Carol Ann Nixon will be held Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. in the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Donations in memory of Carol Ann may be made to charity of choice.
