It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and caring friend, Shirley Leblanc on Nov. 27, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, Dec. 11, 1956, she was the daughter of Alphonse and the late Elizabeth (Stewart) Barrie.
She was employed with the Department of Community Services in North Sydney as a social worker for over 20 years. Shirley was the first field worker on the Northside with the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, assisting many women, and senior citizens with the provision of various information sessions as well as numerous workshops. She was also instrumental in initiating a breakfast program at the local elementary school.
Left behind to mourn are her sons, Chris (Michelle), John Bardswich, and Jeffery, all at home; her stepsons, Michael and Robert, Victoria, B.C.; her loving grandson, Carson and his mother, Shirley’s ‘daughter’ Renee Carroll; sister, Debbie (Dave) Maddock, Kentville, N.S.; and her loving and longtime best friend, Lorna Maclean.
Besides her mother Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Michael LeBlanc and niece, Katie Maddock.
In keeping with Shirley’s wishes cremation has taken place. Shirley’s family will receive visitors Tuesday, Dec. 1 from 7-9 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines.
