NEW GLASGOW – Everett Spurgeon Fancey, 93, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
He was born in Bridgewater, N.S. on September 6, 1918. Everett lived most of his life in New Glasgow working in his early years at Thompson and Sutherland Limited and many years at Glasgow Metals before retirement. Everett loved the simple things in life; playing cards with family and friends, fishing, and sitting on the deck. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up and always followed their sports endeavours. The family enjoyed entering the house to hear him playing the piano only to stop when he knew he could be heard. His sense of humour and witty remarks were enjoyed by all who crossed his path.
Everett was predeceased by the love of his life Evelyn Belle Oickle; his parents Spurgeon and Addie (Wile) Fancey; and his sister Beatrice Ernst of Bridgewater.
Surviving are his daughters: Pat (Grant) Smith, St. Margaret’s Bay, NS; Barbara (Stuart Wornell), Bedford, NS; Brenda (Stephen) Boudreau, New Glasgow, NS; and by his grandchildren: Eric (Lisa) Smith, St. Margaret’s Bay, NS; Taira (Matt) Butler, Kentville, NS; Mark (Jill) Murphy, Halifax, NS; Jason (Sandie) Murphy, Edmonton, AB; Ryan (Mikal) Boudreau; Lamont, AB; Kelly Boudreau, Saskatchewan; Stephanie (Nick) Porter, Amherst, NS; and by his six great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home. There will be no visitation as requested by Everett. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow with Rev. Randy Stanton officiating. Interment to follow at the Abercrombie Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in Everett’s memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
