Mary Oblenia ‘Obbie’ Cameron passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital on Jan. 18, 2012, after a long struggle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Pius and Mary (Watson) McNeil and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Obbie worked tirelessly for those she loved and was always ready to lend a hand to a friend or neighbour.
Obbie lived in Georgetown, Ont., for over 20 years while she and Pat raised their three daughters before retiring to Reserve Mines and renovating her McNeil family home.
Obbie loved to dance, spend long days hard at work in her garden and contributed to her community as an active member of St. Joseph’s parish CWL. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and will be remembered for her energy, kindness, strength of spirit and positive attitude.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 44 years, Patrick Cameron; daughters, Michelle (Ryan), Patrice, Andrea; adoring granddaughters, Tess and Simone; siblings, Jane, Raymond, Robert, Angie, Florence, Gilbert, Erma; and many nieces and nephews.
In honouring Obbie’s wishes there will be no visitation. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with her brother Fr. Robert McNeil officiating and parish priest Fr. Daniel Boudreau con-celebrating. Interment will follow in parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
Donations in Obbie’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre or to the Palliative Care Society.
