BETTY O'FEE

BETTY O'FEE

Passed in: Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: January 21st, 2012

Our mother, Betty O'Fee (nee Lovell) of Kamloops passed away on January 21, 2012 after 85 years of a life well lived.

Mom is survived by her sisters-in-law Claire Steward and Anna Mayhew, seven children Mary (Doug), Sheila (Mike), Dan (Renee), Liam, K.C., John (Daniela) and Patti (Rolf), sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a family of friends.

She was predeceased by our Dad, Liam O'Fee and was a special sister-in-law to his siblings Kathleen, Bridie, Mary, and John as well as their spouses. She also survived her two sisters Vivian and Kay, her sons-in-law Fred and Bob and her great granddaughter Reagan.

Mom was born in Vancouver and entered the workforce as an aircraft riveter during the Second World War. From there she pursued a career in Nursing, graduating from the St. Paul's Hospital School in 1948. She moved to Williams Lake to take her first hospital position and was introduced to Dad by his sister Claire who was Betty's co-worker. They married in 1950 and started raising a family together first in Williams Lake and then at a radar base at Puntzi Mountain.

In 1958 Dad had an opportunity to transfer to the new Mount Lolo radar base so the growing family moved to Kamloops. Mom and Dad never left.

Our mother was a woman of humility backed by a strong faith, a quick wit and a kind heart. She rarely had a cross word for anyone and felt a deep commitment to help those less fortunate. No matter who you were, she was a person genuinely interested in you and the things that mattered to you. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and always made you feel that you were very special to her.

We always marvelled at her level of charity despite her modest income. From supporting foster children overseas to worthy local causes, dozens of organizations could count on Betty for support. Our mom was our touchstone for the things that are really important in life; Family, friends and an understanding that you are on this earth for a higher purpose. We all knew in our hearts that we could stand to be a bit more like Betty O'Fee. We miss her dearly but take comfort in the fact that her suffering was brief and that she is back together with her one true love.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Friday, January 27th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., with Funeral Prayers the evening prior at 7:00 p.m. Reverend Father Peter Hoan Nguyen, Celebrant.

Special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff taking care of Mom in her last few days. She was very grateful for the attention and compassion you gave her.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Betty's memory to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, the charity of your choice or just take the time to commit a random act of kindness. Mom would like that.
