GALLANT, WALTER - Walter Gallant, 94, of the Villa Providence Shediac, passed away at his residence, on Thursday, January 26th, 2012. Born August 15th, 1917 in Robichaud, he was the son of the late Louis and Agnes (Bourque) Gallant. He began his fishing career in 1930 at the young age of 13. In 1984, he stopped fishing to open and operate Walter Gallant Fish Market in Robichaud up to his retirement. He was also a member of the Grand-Barachois Golden Age Club. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 70 years, Flora (Ouellet); three daughters: Annette Gaudet (Emery) and Denise Landry (Armand), both of Grand-Barachois and Ginette Aubé (Roland) of Notre Dame; three sons: Jean Louis (Louise) of Shediac, Aimé (Margerite) and Yvon (Diane), both of Grand-Barachois; four sisters: Alvina Boudreau (feu Léonce), Alma Léger (feu Gérard) and Tilda Robichaud (Ronaldo), all of Shediac and Emelda Landry (Clorice) of Grand-Barachois; one brother, Emery (feu Lorraine) of Grand-Barachois; two daughters-in-law: Thérèse Landry and Louise Belanger; one sister-in-law: Andréa Gallant; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sons: Roger and Alias; three brothers: Laurie, Ernest and Clairisse, as well as two sisters: Laura and Maria.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral Home, 396 Main Street, Shediac (532-3297). Visiting hours Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Monday from 9 a.m. until time of departure (10:15). The funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint-Henri R.C. Church in Grand-Barachois on Monday January 30th, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. In his memory, donations may be made to the New Brunswick Lung Association or to the Saint-Henri parish cemetery.
