J. Charles MacDonald, BA, CA

Born In: Canada

Passed in: Canada
Passed on: December 1st, 2009

With great love and sadness, the family announces that Charles passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Palliative Care unit on December 1, 2009, after a gutsy six-year battle with cancer. Charles was in his 80th year of life when he passed away. Adored husband of Nuala for 50 years. Loving father of James (Karyn Stock), Tom (Dr. Tracy Buhrows) and Rod (Susan Steep). Proud Papa of Braedon, Shae-Lynn, Jaynie and Abbey. Siblings, Pius - deceased (Agnes - deceased), Marion McLaughan (Frank - deceased), Howard (Lou), Boyd - deceased (Laura), Eileen Gillis (Edward), Al (Gladys - deceased), Estelle Fisher (John) and Leonard. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
Charles was a force to be reckoned with. His sense of wisdom and rational thought, along with his integrity and careful judgment will be missed. He was a benchmark for honesty, fairness and goodwill. He will also be lovingly remembered for his humour and charm as well as his selfless devotion to his family. He was fiercely independent and had an endlessly curious intellect. He was a proud sole-proprietor who served his clients well. Charles was a founding board member of St. Jude Community Homes, which provides permanent housing for post-psychiatric patients. He was also involved with many other charitable causes.
Charles most enjoyed life at the cottage with his family and friends, where he could politely thumb his nose at the rest of the world. A graduate of St. Dunstan's University (UPEI). He was forever fond of his birthplace, the red sandy soils of Prince Edward Island, where he will be laid to rest in St. Andrew's Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday, December 3, 2009, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home (159 Eglinton Ave. W., 2 lights west of Yonge St.). A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (24 Cheritan Ave., at Yonge St. south of Lawrence Ave.).
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Ride To Conquer Cancer at www.conquercancer.ca, or 1-877-699-2453, where you can sponsor Charles's son - Tom MacDonald.
