NEW GLASGOW – Mildred Christine Kellock, RN, 92, New Glasgow, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born on MacLennan’s Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel (Fraser) MacDonald. Mildred attended the former MacLennan’s Mountain School and New Glasgow High School. Upon graduation, she began working as a housekeeper for the late Dr. MacMillan, who recognized her potential and encouraged Mildred to enrol in the Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing from where she graduated in 1942. In the same year she married Winston Kellock. She was a conscientious nurse, always putting her patient’s interests first. Mildred and the late Dr. J. B. MacDonald were instrumental in the development and operation of the Aberdeen Hospital diabetic clinic, where she served as head nurse for many years. She was an active member of the Aberdeen Hospital Alumni. Not having children of their own, Mildred and Winse took great interest in their 18 nieces and nephews, always ready to lend a helping hand. She helped immeasurably with the care of her grandmother, Catherine MacDonald and her parents in their later years. Mildred enjoyed traveling to the Holy Land, Europe, Vancouver and her many winter visits to Florida. She was a wonderful host, who entertained regularly at her MacGregor Street home and Black Point cottage.
Surviving are her sisters, Violet (Palmer) MacLellan, New Glasgow; Elva Roy, King’s Head; Mae Cameron and Isabel Ross, Stellarton; 15 nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Winston; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Dan Kellock; sister-in-law, Vern Richards; brothers-in-law, Royce Kellock, Donnie Cameron and Jim Ross; niece, Jennifer Cameron; nephews, Donald Cameron and Kenneth Roy.
