On Sunday, November 19, 2006, Marilyn Lorraine Ivey passed away from a short battle of eye and liver cancer in Kamloops, BC at the age of 68 years old. Marilyn was the only child of Arthur Samuel Taylor and Freda Grace O'NEIL, born April 25, 1938 in Calgary, Alberta. Marilyn is survived by one daughter, Carole Zimmer (Brian Norberg) of Calgary, Alberta; one son, Colin Ivey (Virginia) of Pritchard, BC. Her grandchildren, Joel, Janelle and Eric Zimmer; Jessica and Cassandra Ivey; Harmony and Tabitha Courtney. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Charles William Ivey on September 16, 2005; and her father, Arthur Samuel Taylor on March 2, 1999; and her mother Freda Grace (nee O'NEIL) on December 6, 1979. During her illness, Marilyn attended the 50th High School reunion of the John Oliver High School Class of 1956 in Vancouver, June 2006. After graduating from high school, she wandered north to Lac La Hache to teach the primary grades in 1960. She met and married Chuck Ivey in Williams Lake in 1962. In early winter of 1964, the couple moved to Calgary with infant - Carole. Colin arrived in the summer of 1965 in Calgary. In Kamloops, she worked at the then Cariboo College Library as a Library Technician. In 1978, after moving to Williams Lake, Marilyn focused her energies on raising sheep. Her passion for genealogy began in Williams Lake. After relocating to Kamloops in 1990, Marilyn was actively involved with the Family History Society for a number of years. She touched many lives with her unique skills for digging up ancestors. She also loved to write. Every winter for 37 years, she wrote lengthy Christmas letters of the comings and goings of the Ivey family. She also loved music. She was involved with the Choir group at John Oliver High School and the Musical Theatre in Calgary, as well as a folk music band in Kamloops. Marilyn also loved to travel. She visited many parts of the world as a tour guide for Wells Gray Tours. The highlight of her travels was two unique experiences in China. At the request of Marilyn, there will be no service. An open house in celebration of Marilyn's life will be held at her home, 1580 Pemberton Rd., Pritchard, BC on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 11:00 am-3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kamloops S.P.C.A.
