NICKERSON, Michael Barry – 58, of Wellington, Yarmouth County, passed away suddenly at home on January 28, 2012. Born January 8, 1954 in Barrington, he was the son of the late Philip and Mae (King) Nickerson of Barrington. Mike was a graduate of Barrington High School and attended Acadia University. He worked for CN Marine and Marine Atlantic aboard the MV Marine Cruiser, MV Bluenose and MV Marine Evangeline for 24 years. For the last 12 years, was employed with the Tri-County Regional School Board as custodian at Drumlin Heights School and Maple Grove Educational Center. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved to watch various sports, especially hockey and baseball. He was a faithful member of the Hebron Baptist Church and former board member of Camp Peniel. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Gloria (Barry) Nickerson; daughter, Stacey Laura and son, Brian Michael; he is also survived by sisters, Phyllis (Kirby) Cunningham and Faye (James) Mackinnon, both of Centerville, Cape Sable Island; nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Marie Barry of Yarmouth. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visiting hours took place Saturday, February 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial service was held on Sunday, February 5 at 2 p.m. from Hebron Baptist Church, Hillside Drive, Hebron, Rev. Wayne Johnson and Rev. Mitchell DeWare officiated. Interment will take place at a later date in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Camp Peniel or Hebron Baptist Church.
