John Scott Douglas Knighton, CD 1947 - 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Scott Douglas Knighton on December 7, 2006. John will be truly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Judy; daughter Lora and grandchildren Deneke and Graesen; son Paul; step-daughter Kerry (John); and his brothers Charles (Judy) and Kenneth (Leslie). John is predeceased by his mother Mary Blanch (1972), father John Henry (1986) and sister Meryl Francine (1993). John was born April 21, 1947 in Windsor, ON. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1966 as a member of the Royal Canadian Regiment. He transferred to the Military Police Branch and retired in 1987 as a Sergeant. Since that time he was a reservist with the Rocky Mountain Rangers in Kamloops, BC, the 12 Service Battalion in Richmond, BC and was a Safety and Security Inspector for Transport Canada. An avid horseman, John and Judy have been operating Double J Stables for the past 18 years, starting their thoroughbred racing career in Kamloops, BC and racing for the past 10 years at Hastings Park in Vancouver, BC. John was also the Vice President and a founding director of the New Stride Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. A memorial service and reception will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 6 in Cloverdale, BC. Friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of John's life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Stride Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation would be appreciated.
