Cecil Rankin

PICTOU – Cecil William Rankin, 70, of Maple Street, Pictou passed away February 4, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Pictou Island, he was a son of the late Duncan & Verna Rankin. Cecil was retired from Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries where he worked for 30 years as Supervisor of Coastal Resource Coordinators. Prior to that he was a lobster fisherman, a career he began at age 19 when he bought his first boat. The fishing industry was both his life work and his passion. He continued to make time for this passion every lobster season with his lifetime friend and fisherman, Theodore MacLean. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 16, Pictou and the Liberal Association, and he enjoyed golfing, gardening, and card playing.
He is survived by his wife Ardath (MacLellan); son, Troy (Bonnie); beloved granddaughter, Petra; sisters, Judy Henderson (Vincent Turple); Nina (Joe) Chezenko; mother in law, Ida Munroe and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Shirley (Munroe); daughter Tammy Marie.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou with Rev. Steve Webb officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
