Jacob 'Buddy' Ferguson
Born In: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed in: Florence, Nova Scotia, Canada
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband father brother grandfather uncle and friend at home after a long struggle with cancer.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the adopted son of the late William and Margaret (Bonnar) Ferguson.
Buddy worked with Devco at the Sydney Mines wash plant until his retirement. He loved all sports bowling, baseball, hockey and horseshoes, but his love was ice fishing on the Bras d’Or Lakes with his buddy Heckie. He was a kind and generous person who loved life and was ready to help anyone in need.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Martha ‘Mattie’ Ferguson; son, Wayne and daughter-in-law, Juanita and his two precious grandchildren, Beth and Matthew whom he loved dearly. Buddy was adopted into the Ferguson family at an early age where he grew up with the Ferguson children sisters, Eleanor (Fred) Patterson, May (the late David Dowling); brother, Bill (Miriam) Ferguson. Buddy’s extended family include sisters, Peggy Ryba Travis, Nellie Betts, Bernadette (Charlie) Keigan; brothers, George (Geraldine) Walker, Dave (Marlene) Farrell, Jim (Linda) Michook and Joe (Joan) Tracey.
Visitation for Buddy Ferguson will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A funeral service celebrating his life will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, with Rev. David Luker officiating. Cremation has taken place, burial to be held at a later date.
