Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: February 3rd, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine ‘Cato’ Clarke on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Tennyson ‘Teddy’ Martin and Helen (Bradbury) Melnick.
Cato was a woman of simple pleasures. She loved her home and Table Head and was happiest when family members came to visit. She enjoyed her favorite TV shows, but most of all, spending time in the summer with family and friends in her backyard.
For the past four years, Cato looked forward to seeing her homecare workers each morning. She enjoyed her chats with all, especially, Barb Butts, whom she regarded as a dear friend.
Cato was devoted to her family and will be dearly missed and forever loved.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Sharon (Fred) Jamieson, Betty Mitchell, Shauna Morgan, Jodi (Bill) Morrison; sons, Teddy (Anita), Herb (Kyra), Eldon (Denise) and ‘Shum’, at home, who devoted years of tender loving care to Mom & Dad; 16 cherished grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor (Mick) Boozan; brothers, Eldon Martin, Darcy (Ann) Melnick and Blayne (Linda) Melnick.
Besides her parents, Cato was predeceased by her stepfather, Mick Melnick, her loving husband of 57 years, Herbert ‘Lefty’ Clarke (2004) and granddaughter, Denise Michelle Jamieson, in infancy.
Visitation for Catherine ‘Cato’ Clarke will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Cato’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
