Jessie Gertrude Pelley Banfield, 97 of Halifax, formerly of North Sydney, N.S. and Port Union/Catalina, Trinity Bay, Nfld., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.
Born Sept. 22, 1914, in Catalina, Trinity Bay, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Baldwin) Haynes.
Jessie was a devoted mother who was involved with the community as a member of the St. John’s Anglican Church and the Royal Canadian Legion, North Sydney.
She is survived by sons, Walter (Theresa) Pelley, North Sydney, Alexander (June) Pelley, Fort Simpson, N.W.T., Frederick (Angela) Pelley, Halifax, Richard (Janice) Pelley, Cole Harbour; daughter, Judith Banfield, Bridgewater; stepdaughter, Betty (Reg) Mason, Newfoundland; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by husbands, Alexander Pelley, Port Union, Nfld. and Robert William ‘Bill’ Banfield, North Sydney; sons, Crawford (Anne) Pelley and Jack Pelley and stepson, Clayton (Ethel) Pelley.
Cremation has taken place in Halifax. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service to celebrate her life will take place, at a time to be determined, in North Sydney. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory and/or St. John’s Anglican Church 3M Campaign, North Sydney.
