It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Helen, at the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009.
Born in Sugar Loaf, Victoria County on March 25, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Effie (MacDonald) MacLellan.
She was a devout member of St. Leonard’s parish, New Waterford. Helen will be remembered for her love of a good time and her lively step-dancing. She spoke the Gaelic language fluently and had a passion for Scottish music. Helen also enjoyed both ice skating and roller skating in earlier years.
Among our fond memories were her baking of bonnack and biscuits, her games of tarabish, her devotion to her family and grandchildren, constantly tending to their needs and her many games of horseshoes in her younger years.
Widowed at an early age, Helen travelled widely throughout the United States and Canada. She was a woman of strong faith and character.
Helen is survived by sons, Paul, New Victoria, and Collie (Betty), River Ryan; daughter, Phemie Walzak, New Waterford; brother, George MacLellan, Taigh Na Mara; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by both her husbands, Collie MacKinnon and John Archie MacIsaac, daughters, Anna MacArthur, Florence MacNeil, sons, Duncan and Colin, in infancy. She was also predeceased by brothers, Alan, Gus, William, Johnny, Hector, sisters, Margaret, Flora, Mary Jane, Christina, and Cassie.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Carmel Centre, New Waterford.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of one’s choice.
