Formerly of Edmonton, AB, retired from the staff of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta. Passed away in the presence of his loving sister at St. John’s, NL, on 15 February 2012. Born 19 May 1947, son of the late Edith C. and Major M. Gordon McCannel. Leaving to mourn his sister Janet (Augustus G. Lilly); niece Christine Morris (John), grand nephews and grand niece Jack, Sarah, and Braeden Morris; nephew Stephen Lilly and special friend, Jennifer MacLean; uncle Donald G. McCannel (Dorothy). Also leaving to mourn cousins Diane McCannel, Doug McCannel (Brenda), David McCannel, Keith Tegart, Neil Tegart, Doug Tegart, and Ian Tegart (Ann). Special thanks to the staff of Chancellor Park, the staff of Elizabeth Towers Assisted Living, and the staff of the Health Sciences Centre Emergency Department. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. Visitation on Saturday, 18 February 2012, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service to take place from Barrett's Chapel on Sunday, 19 February 2012, at 2:00 p.m. Interment with his parents at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, James Lane, St. John’s.
