Mabel Victoria Ruttan (nee Mizon) August 3, 1903 to January 18, 2007 Mabel Victoria Ruttan (nee Mizon) was born to Jack and Maude Eleanor Mizon in Orsett, Thurrock, England on August 3rd, 1903. In June 1905 Mabel Victoria immigrated to Canada with her parents and older brother Christopher. The family went directly to Malakwa where they resided on a 160 acre homestead north of the Eagle River. In 1919 Mae, as she became known, went to Enderby to live and to attend high school. While living in Enderby, Mae met Percy G. Ruttan whom she married in Salmon Arm in 1921 at the age of 18. Once married Mae and Percy lived for many years in various interior locations like Juliet, Malakwa, Sicamous, Enderby, Kelowna, Falkland and eventually Kamloops in 1947. Although Percy predeceased Mae in 1952 Mae always remained his wife and continued to carry on his memory for her children and for her grandchildren. After Percy passed away Mae remained in Kamloops working in Bennett's and Marshall Wells while finishing the home that Percy had built for her. She was a Member of Branch 25 for many years during that time and a Crib playing member of a sewing circle to which she belonged for some 35 years. Mae collected and sold fine china until she retired at the age of 73. She painted, created beautiful ceramics, afghans and baby clothes for family and friends, grew prize winning flowers, fruits and vegetables until at the age of 93 she moved from the home that Percy had built for her. However, even this past summer she continued to grow her beautiful flowers in a wonderful flower box at Pine Grove Lodge. ,Mae also opened her home and her heart to many young people to whom she became known as a second mother and grandmother. From Layton Parkman and the Falkner girls to Harley who all gave her so many hours of company and friendship in return over the years. In August of 2003 Mae celebrated her 100th birthday and even with fires burning all around the town of Kamloops she was fortunate enough to have most of her family and many friends there. Mabel Victoria was an incredible woman who arrived in Canada as a child in the pioneer days of the province of B.C. and grew to a woman who touched the lives of so many over the years. Although she will be missed by all of her family and friends we will each carry her memory with us and hopefully pass down to our children not only the stories but the love she gave all of us as well. Predeceased by: Percy, Ross, Bonnie, Pat, Jacquie, John and Lyn. Loved, survived and missed by: Joy (Bud); Murray (Janet); Grant; Bruce (Pia); Vicki (Colin); Penny (Kevin); Michael (Carol); Jan; Barry (Sabrina); Danny (Karen); ten Grandchildren; twenty-seven Great Grandchildren; thirteen Great Great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. The family would like to extend a very special warm thank you to the extremely caring and compassionate staff at Pine Grove Lodge and the care of Dr. Fike.
