It is with great sadness in my heart that I have to inform you of the passing of my mom, Carolyn (Nolan) Martell. She was a wonderful mom to myself and my four brothers and a devoted wife to my dad, Calvin Martell. After battling lung disease for many years, her battle ended on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Basil and Emma ‘Toots’ (Andrews) Nolan. Carolyn graduated from St. Anne’s and Xavier Junior College.
Left to share her memory are her husband, Calvin Martell; her five children, Terry, Kevin, Michael (Barb), Adrian (Helen) and Anita (Ian) McVicar; grandchildren, Taya (Chad) Seville, Colin McVicar, Sean McVicar and Kyle (Courtney) Richardson; great-grandchildren, Ansom, Caelin, Layla Seville and Carly Richardson. Also left to celebrate her life are her devoted family, brothers-in-law, Nelson (Bev), Adrian (Joan); sisters-in-law, Estelle (Stan) Reppa, Rita (Robert) Marshall, Anne (Julie) MacNeil and many nieces, nephews, friends and family.
She was predeceased by her mother and father-in-law, Frank and Rita (MacNeil) Martell.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph Du Moine. A memorial mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River.
Donations may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd.
