SPERRY, Irvin Franklyn, 87, West Green Harbour, Shelburne County, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 17, 2012 in Queen’s General Hospital. Born on January 11, 1925, in West Green Harbour, he was a son of the late William George and Kennetha Mae (Williams, Belong) Sperry. Irvin made his living from the sea; fishing for herring and lobster with his step-father Sandy and his brother- in-law Carroll. The family has fond memories of huge feeds of lobster sitting around the kitchen table at the house on the point. He never married, but devoted himself to caring for his mother and stepfather. Irvin enjoyed attending card parties and socializing with friends. Visits with family always required several hands of cards. Irvin was an avid sports fan and loved to talk hockey and baseball. He was often seen wearing a “Cobras” baseball hat, an 80’s baseball team, whose games he often attended to see members of his family play. Irvin had a quick sense of humor and an impish laugh that will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his sisters, Irma Lee (Norman) Johnson and Hilda “Ruth” (Carroll) Scott; 16 nieces and nephews, 33 great nieces and nephews, 28 great, great nieces and nephews and 1 great, great, great nephew. In addition to his parents, Irvin was predeceased by his step-father Alexander Dall Belong and his brothers Arden Francis Sperry and Leslie “Earle” Sperry. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Lockeport. A memorial service was held Tuesday, February 21 with Reverend Kevin Grant officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. On-line condolences may be sent to: hmhuskilson@ns.alantzinc.ca or you may sign the guest book at: www.huskilson.net
