The death of Leon D. Smith, 92 years of age, of Amherst occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Friday, February 24, 2012. Born in Shinimicas, he was a son of the late Walter & Sarah (Black) Smith.
Leon was a member of the Amherst Y's Men, the 50 Plus Club and the Senior Bowling League. He liked wood working, spending time with his family and summers at the Amherst Shore Cottage.He will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Mary Lou Hunter of New Glasgow and Lillian McGarvey of Amherst; four sons, David (Barbara) of Port Perry, ON, Daniel (Dorothy) of Truemanville, Randall (Donna) of Enfield and Rodney (Deborah) of Herring Cove; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; sisters, Doris Smith of Pugwash, Jean Greeno of Amherst.
Besides his parents, Leon was per deceased by his wife Elsie (Black), brothers John & Arnold; sister, Stella.
At Leon's request, there is to be no visitation. Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777). A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
