Salvatore \"Sam\" Grimaldi

Born In: Canada

Passed in: Canada

SALVATORE "SAM" GRIMALDI 1943 - 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Salvatore "Sam" Grimaldi after a short but courageous battle with leukemia. Salvatore is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Kathleen (Kathy) Stewart and their daughter Maria. Salvatore was born January 9th, 1943 in Taurianova R.C. Italy. By the age of seven, Salvatore was orphaned, and was raised by his grandmother and aunt. When he was 16, he left Italy to find employment as a painter. He lived and worked in France, Switzerland and Spain, finally coming to Canada in July 1969. He worked his way across Canada starting in Montreal, then Ontario and Manitoba, finally settling in Kamloops, B.C. in 1972 where he met Kathy and decided to settle down. He worked as a painter for several different companies, finally retiring from School District 73 in July 2002 after 21 years of faithful service. Sam enjoyed hunting and ice fishing, and spending much of his time tending his garden and many fruit trees, making wine and salami, but most of all he appreciated being with family and friends, laughing and talking over a glass of wine and good food. He was involved with the Italian community and a member of the Colombo Lodge for many years and member of the School District #73 and CUPE, Local 3700. We wish to thank the staff in the R.I.H Emergency Department, A.C.U., the nurses on 5-South, and especially Dr. Beall and Brandy for the care and support given to Salvatore and his family. Last but not least, thank you to his many friends who brightened his day with their calls and visits. Prayers will be recited at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 7.00 p.m. on Monday, March 5th, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2007. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Donations in Salvatore's name may be made to Cancer Control Agency of B.C., Leukemia Research, 600 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 4E6, in lieu of flowers.
