Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Judge J.J. Smith and Mary Jane (O’Neil) Smith.
A devout member of Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s parish, she was a reservist in the 1950s, worked as a telephone operator, and was a valued employee of the Smart Shop in Sydney for over 40 years. She delighted in traveling, being with her family, and playing tarabish with her devoted husband, Clarence. An avid card player, she was a member of a Sydney card club for decades. Following her husband’s sudden death in 2005, Mary made her home in Springhill with her only son, Clarence, and his wife, Elaine.
