It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Frank Matthews, 61, on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his loving family at his side.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Isadore and Loretta (Galpin) Matthews.
Frank was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19, North Sydney. He enjoyed darts, bowling, and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Monina ‘Nennie’; his daughters, Gloria, Amanda, Bridget (Paul), all of North Sydney; his son, Stephen (Evelyn), Sydney; five granddaughters and one grandson. The apple of Frank’s eye was ‘Poppy’s girl’ Paula. Frank is also survived by three sisters, Kathleen Baker, Gloria (James) MacIntyre, Marie (Bill) McKee, all of North Sydney; brother-in-law, Johnny Parks; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Isadore and Loretta Matthews, his sisters, Wilma in infancy and Linda Parks, brother, James, and brother-in-law, James Baker.
The family would like to say a special thank-you to Marie, Bill and MacIntyre, for constantly being there for Frank, and the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit and the Northside General Hospital.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Frank, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
