GOUTHRO, ROLAND BERNARD - Our dear Dad and Husband, Roland Bernard Gouthro has passed away. He was born in Dominion, Cape Breton on April 29, 1925, he passed away on March 5, 2012 at the Oromocto Hospital. Roland is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte. They were married for 57 years. Charlotte Gouthro resides in Burton. His daughter Brigitte with husband Delmont and grandson Darcy Myshrall reside in Fredericton. His daughter Annie-Marie and husband Greg Biesenthal and grandson Jim States and great-grandson Riley States reside in Ontario. His son Bernie Gouthro resides in British Columbia. His nephew and niece, Joseph and Alexis Steele of Port Hawksbury, his cousins Adele and Al of Fredericton and one step-daughter Monika Liebeg of Germany. Roland was a Veteran of the Second World War and Korea. He served from the age of 17 until his retirement, 29 years later. He was stationed in France and Holland. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #93 and was a member of the FSNA. Roland was the last survivor of the Gouthro’s from Dominion. His mother was Annie and his father was Joseph Gouthro. His brothers were Irvee, Roy, Fauncey, Gusey, Tommy, Charles, and one sister Annie. Roland loved baseball, traveling and fishing. He also leaves behind good friends, Bill and Mary, Bob and Carolyn, Rita and Pat and his very good friend, Blais and Irene and Phyllis. Those of us who knew Rollie know that he was a gentle, kind, caring and giving person. We will miss him with all our hearts. May the good Lord welcome him with loving arms.
Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Thursday, March 8th, 2012 at 12:00 noon. Rev. Ken Weir will officiate. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #93 will also hold a tribute service at the church. For those who wish, memorial tributes in Rollie’s honor may be made to the Lung or Diabetes Associations.
