Gilroy, George D. - 74, Stanley, Cumberland County, passed away Monday, March 5th, 2012 with his family by his side in All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Stanley, he was a son of the late Stevely and Lena (Gloade) Gilroy. George began his working life in the woods and later the coal mines and eventually owned and operated a successful roofing and siding business. He enjoyed his time in the outdoors, whether it was hunting or working on his family’s land. George also loved his family and appreciated his time spent with them. He is survived by his wife of 52 years the former Joyce Napper; daughter, Laura Lena (Gary) Blenkhorn, Goderich, ON; sons, Tim (Doreen), Stanley; Arthur (Kelly), Stanley; sisters, Evelyn Maddison, Stanley; Phyllis Chapman, Amherst; Frances (Croyden) Wood, Parrsboro; Carol Moore, Amherst; brothers, Donald, Leicester; Harold (Effie), Steeves Mountain, NB; grandchildren, Krista, Amanda, Angela, Eric, Ryan, Kate, Courtney, Gregory, Nicholas, and Jayden; great grandchildren, Brayson, Ryder, and Evan. He was predeceased by son, George William; sisters, Josephine MacMaster and Leona Patterson. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 9, with funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, with Bill Drysdale officiating, all in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (447-2930).
